Our Success Stories
Jon - Hearing the birds again
Jon, aged in his late 70s, and his wife lost everything except some clothing and a few personal possessions in a major disaster. Although insured, they received no compensation due to some exceptional circumstances beyond their control. His wife, of similar age, has sought work to try and re-establish some basic household necessities.
With savings all used, there were no monies for his desperately needed hearing aid to help his hearing loss caused possibly in part by their very stressful situation. We were able to assist Jon so that his hearing aid purchase was possible and he has expressed his grateful thanks, now being much more relaxed at “hearing the birds sing and not having to have the TV sound turned up so high”.
Carol - Excelling at University
Carol has had a hearing loss since birth, but manages with 2 strong hearing aids. She did quite well at school, but wished to seek a University degree in her chosen career. Carol excelled at University for the 4 years involved and kept in touch with the Trust, finally achieving her academic success with distinction.
Blue Lagoon Hearing Trust was proud to assist in her academic progression by way of scholarships in each of the 3 years she applied.
Mandy - Facing the music
Mandy is a national judge of music, but after several years of persevering, had to give up this enjoyable recreation due to hearing loss. With a Welfare Benefit as her only income, Mandy could not afford the cost of the 2 necessary hearing aids.
After seeking professional audiology assistance for the correct aids and discussing her finance application with us, we were able to provide the shortfall required, after another source of partial assistance also became available. Mandy is now back judging the music she loves.
