Melissa - Confident Conversationalist

Single mum Melissa thought she would never be able to afford hearing aids.  With a grant from Blue Lagoon Hearing Trust, Melissa’s world has expanded, from the life changing - allowing her to participate confidently in group conversations- to little things like hearing her own footsteps! She has peace of mind and is more at ease driving and performing daily tasks.

Most notably, hearing aids have made it possible for Melissa to enjoy an active social life. Meeting groups of friends at restaurants and being able to hear conversations in a loud environment has been a wonderful experience for her. Melissa is grateful for the grant that has made it possible for her to purchase hearing aids and enjoy a new chapter in life.

Cassie - Excelling at University

Cassie was awarded a Blue Lagoon Hearing Trust Scholarship in 2023. Cassie put forth consistent effort to achieve to the highest level throughout her years at college, meeting the challenge severe bilateral hearing loss presented her with.  Cassie earned NCEA credits 1-3 and earned Excellence Endorsement on each level and earned Academic Excellence awards in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math, and Health.  Cassie was active in school clubs and volunteering in the community. Now attending her first year of university, she has plans to earn a Bachelor Degree in Dental Surgery.

“Receiving this scholarship made my first year of university better by allowing me to go home and see my family after being away for a long period of time,” Cassie shared. Blue Lagoon Hearing Trust is proud to assist in her academic progression and wishes Cassie all the best with her studies.

Event Sponsorship

Blue Lagoon Hearing Trust was happy to partner in sponsoring the Bay of Plenty Association for Deaf Children’s Christmas Party.  Families and children had a blast, enjoying a pizza lunch, an amazing bubble science show performed by Whizz Bang Science, and a visit from Santa who handed out ice blocks.

Improved quality of life

“I want to testify what a privilege it is to hear…” a recipient began her email and went on to share how obtaining hearing aids has changed her life. Safety was a theme throughout, from being able to hear the sound of water running to hearing the sound of her car indicators. Hearing the fridge beep when the door was left ajar, and other seemingly small incidents have improved quality of life for the recipient.
